Waarom heten kauwen in het Engels "Jackdaw"? Was er ene Jack die deze vogels heeft ontdekt, of zo?

Jack is Oudengels voor stelen en verwijst naar het stelend gedrag van deze vogels

Oftewel: 'jack' , een term voor iets dat veel voorkomt, gewoon is, slaat op het algemeen zijn, 'daw' is waarschijnlijk een imitatie van het geluid, zoals het dier hier 'kauw' heet.
